The Sacral Chakra

We are back with another Mystical Monday post. The focus for today is on the sacral chakra, which is located between the belly button and pelvic area.

It is associated with the color orange, and with the element of water.

There are two main crystals which serve the purpose of either opening or soothing this chakra. This is important because depending on whether this chakra is closed or overactive, it’s key to use the appropriate crystals. These two crystals are orange carnelian and moonstone. An interesting tidbit of information is that this chakra is associated with the moon, which may make the moonstone a bit more poignant for some of you, but either crystal above is perfect. I recommend picking up one or both of them before we get to the end of the series, and the exercise, in order to help get this chakra balanced before we get to that point. Below are some of the key points of the physical and spiritual/emotional functions of the sacral chakra.

Pelvic organs.

The kidneys and bladder.

Lower back.

Lower part of the digestive system.

The spleen which plays a key role in filtering the blood and with the immune system.

Creation and expression of our individuality.

Passion and nurturing.

Ability to receive and express love.

As you may have noted, several of the properites of the sacral chakra are very feminine in nature. This chakra plays a very important role psychologically. When it is in balance it assists us in being ourselves, including discovering who we are and being able to confidently express ourselves in a variety of ways. The sacral chakra holds the key to love, creativity, and sexuality.

Please spend time this week visualizing this chakra as a still, orange wheel in the location described at the beginning of the post, as this will make the exercise at the end of this series a bit easier. If you’ve picked up one or both of the crystals listed above (which I hope you will), holding this crystal while visualizing the chakra will start to do some healing on it before we even get to the final exercise. For all of the individual chakras we will cover in this series, please go gently and get to know them without trying to get them moving until we get to the final exercise. It is always important when working with your energy to go into it slowly and learn a bit before diving in head first.

Feel free to ask questions you may have about this chakra.

As always, I’m sending lots of love and light your way.

In Trying Times, Meditate!

To say that we live in trying times would be an understatement. In addition to the difficulties people face as a part of life, we are living in a time of challenges on a scale which most people alive today have not experienced. I’ve always been an advocate for meditation as a must in everyone’s toolbox to help them to stay centered, grounded, and clear during both normal (to you) and challenging times.

The reason for including the Solfeggio scale above is that I wanted to share something which can be very helpful when it’s hard to be still or focused for meditating. There are a plethora of videos which utilize these frequencies on YouTube which can be accessed for free to anyone with internet access. I’ve found many of these to be invaluable. As someone who has been meditating for decades, I still encounter challenges when it comes to stilling my mind and body enough. What can I say? I can be a little hyper, and still get overwhelmed when it comes to times of intensity sometimes. Oh, the humanity!

What I love about frequency videos is that when you are experiencing difficulties or challenges in any given area, you can simply do a search for that frequency and pick one which sits well with you. There are many channels and creators making these, with their own styles. Whether or not any particular one can put you in the zone depends on a lot of personal factors, so you may have to click through a handful of them to find the one which suits you best at any given time. The use of headphones of earbuds is a must, due to the binaural nature of this type of media.

Once you find one that feels right, simply settle in and enjoy. Some people have a tendency to get really spaced out while listening to this type of material, so please do not do this while performing any activity which requires concentration in order to be safe. I admit, that there are certain ones which I use while walking in very familiar and safe settings sometimes or even while making art. However, before attempting to do anything like this, familiarize yourself with how you react. If after listening for a few months, you feel you could perform some rote activities, start inside your home doing something like slowly walking from room to room or within the same room. We all react to things differently and erring on the side of caution is a must. After all, meditation is meant to be healing, relaxing, and sometimes empowering- not something that’ll land ourselves or someone else in the emergency room.

As always, I’m sending lots of love and light your way.

The Root Chakra

Welcome to this week’s Mystical Monday post. The focus for today is on the root chakra, which is located at the base of the spine when thinking of it from the back of the body, or at the groin when thinking of it from the front.

It is associated with the color red, and with the element of earth.

A few crystals associated with the root chakra are red jasper and bloodstone. For those of you who enjoy working with crystals, you may wish to pick up one or both of these stones throughout the course of this series, to begin working with the chakra, before attempting to get it moving as we’ll be doing in the exercise at the very end of the next several weeks. Keep reading for a tip to use the crystal(s) to work with it at this stage. Below, I will give you some information about both the physical and spiritual associations for this chakra.

The skeletal structure and bones in general.

The coccygeal nerve plexus, which provides skin sensory ability to that region, and partially innervates the prostate, bladder, uterus, and fallopian tubes.

The adrenal glands which produce hormones which help regulate the immune system, stress response, metabolism, immune system and more.

This chakra can be thought of as the foundation, both physically and psychologically. It helps with the ability to keep going through adversity. A balanced root chakra is important to making decisions about how to not only survive but to thrive.

This covers the basics of important information about this chakra. As you go through the course of this week, please do spend some time visualizing this chakra as a still, red wheel (we will talk about it in motion later on) in the location described at the beginning of the post as this will make the exercise I’ll be providing at the end of this series a bit easier. If you’ve picked up one or both of the crystals listed above, holding this crystal while visualizing the chakra will start to do some healing on it right away. It’s important not to attempt opening this chakra wide before doing some groundwork, which is why I’m making the instructions so gradual, as you may experience a sudden awakening of your kundilini. This is a powerful energy believed to be coiled at the base of the spine from birth, sometimes referred to as the sleeping goddess. This awakening can be very intense (not dangerous), as the nickname sleeping goddess implies *wink*, when it happens suddenly or while unprepared, so it’s nice to go a little easy here.

Feel free to ask questions you may have about this chakra.

As always, I’m sending lots of love and light your way.

Today, I Said Goodbye To Social Media

I’ve had a weird relationship with social media for a long time. While I love connecting with people from all over the world, I have found that social media feels to me like it has morphed into this thing which rarely creates relationships or interests which feel organic and lasting. It seems like a lot of scrolling and clicking without really connecting with what’s being clicked on or scrolled past. Without revealing my age, I’ll say that I’ve been around on the online world for ages, and I’ve noted these changes for many years.

This isn’t about getting the most people to see my stuff, or I’d be staying on it. It’s just that social media, as it is right now, is flooded with people and information to the point of overwhelm. At least, it’s overwhelming for me. My intention is to find and create communities of a depth which go deeper and move slower than what is available when interacting on the big online social giants.

This is not a critique of individual people at all. It’s a me thing. I know that there are people who absolutely love social media and that’s cool, really. For myself, it just feels as though the way that the online world has shaped itself over the last several years has created information overload, shortened attention spans (I’ve noticed this in myself too), and a sea of information (and memes) which moves at hurricane speeds. These days, I’m all about settling into gentler rhythms.

Before social media was such a thing, the internet was a different world. I’m not sure if that world still exists. It might take me a while to figure out how to connect with the amazing stuff people are doing without it, but I’m going to give it a real effort. Depending on how this goes, I may end up back on it, and finding ways to utilize it differently. This should be interesting!

As always, I’m sending lots of love your way.

Chakra System

This is the first installment in what will be a weekly series of posts about the chakra system. As you can see in the image above, there are seven main chakras which are the superhighway of our energetic system. There are more than seven, but knowing about these is most important to attaining and maintaining a healthy flow of energy throughout our bodies. The other chakras are definitely interesting and worth exploring in working with advanced spiritual avenues, and there will likely be mention of these at some point in future posts. The focus for this series though, is to focus on achieving individual balance.

The knowledge of the chakra system has ancient roots, with the first written record of it found in India, and dating between 1500 and 500 BC in texts called the Vedas. One of the great things about this knowledge is that it is universal, and does not require a person to be of any particular creed. Then again, isn’t that the beauty of all universal wisdom?

Each chakra has an independent function, with its own role in our optimal state of being, and encompasses the body, mind, and spirit/soul. It is important to keep the chakras cleared and operating smoothly, and to note that they are interconnected as well. This means that when one is out of balance or blocked, that it has an effect on the entire system.

Not only are the chakras to be looked at as a channel, it is important to note that each one works as a wheel which spins in order to have essential energy flowing out into the parts of the body/mind/spirit that each is associated with. When the wheels are turning properly, this enables the energy to flow freely throughout the entire channel of chakras as a whole.

Our energetic body is crucial to our overall balance and function. As this series progresses, I’ll be talking about one chakra per week, and the final piece will contain an exercise which I created for myself many years ago to help attain some balance. It’s a simple exercise which I developed when I was admittedly a total newbie to this type of energy work. It is so effective though, that I continue to use it to this day to perform quick checks and tuneups on myself.

I could skip right to the exercise but I won’t, because it’s important to have a basic understanding of each chakra’s associations in the body. Not to worry, each section will be brief and not overly complicated. After all, the whole point of this series is to give you something simple and easy to help you get things flowing.

See you next week, and as always, I’m sending lots of love your way!

Mystical Mondays

Hi there! I hope that you’re all having a lovely weekend. Just popping by real quick to let you know that I’ve decided that the regular weekly posts will be happening on Mondays, and I’ll be referring to them as Mystical Mondays.

There will be additional posts happening at random, but Mondays will be consistent. The consistency is important to me for all of you, and also for me as I have a tendency to just kinda wing it. 😉

As always, sending lots of love your way.

Lion’s Gate Portal

Beginning in the latter part of July, through around the 12th of August, the annual astrological event known as the Lion’s Gate Portal happens, with the peak being on August 8th. During this time we are better able to connect with spirituality; including our higher selves, empowerment, and higher states of enlightenment. Orion’s belt and the star Sirius are associated with the Lion’s gate, and the timing happens in the sign of Leo, enriching the energies further with the power of the lion and the sun. The ancient Egyptians, according to many theories, built the pyramids to be in alignment with Orion’s belt, and had a great affinity for Sirius. They associated the great star with the gods Osiris and Sopdet, to name a few. As you can see, this particular alignment has held significance for thousands of years.

To take advantage of the energies of this gateway is simple(ish). The simple part is to intentionally open yourself to accepting the energies coming in through this portal. Allow yourself some time spent in stillness while holding this intention. Now, for the reason that I added the (ish). Another important thing about the Lion’s Gate Portal is that it is a powerful time of releasing any and everything which no longer serves our highest good or encourages our growth. This can mean that things can fall away which will leave you feeling uncomfortable for a while. This is where trust comes in. Not to worry, nothing will happen which isn’t for your best, nor more than you can handle. Knowing that some things and relationships need to be released in order to move more into alignment with our higher selves can be difficult. Just keep in mind that this clearing makes space for that which makes your heart and soul sing and your entire being radiate joy as you begin to manifest bigger and better.

Wishing you all a wonderful period of enlightenment and spiritual enrichment. See you next week as promised to begin a weekly series of posts. Sending lots of love your way!

What’s This All About?

So many go through periods of their lives, or even entire lifetimes feeling disconnected or as though something is missing. As happens to almost all of us at one point or another, varying degrees of our light is dimmed. I’d say all, but speaking in absolutes often leads to trouble, so I’ll say almost all and leave it at that. People come into this world innocent; open to learning, accepting, and believing in unconditional love. They believe in their potential, and are very open to trying and discovering new things. Then, something changes. People are told of things that they shouldn’t believe, will never be able to do, aren’t worthy of, and after a while those messages start to take hold. Little by little (or suddenly, unfortunately), they go from a state of receptivity, belief and enthusiastic curiosity to varying states of disbelief and lessening confidence, learning to be someone who is more in line with what others expect them to be, or which feels “safe”. There are a rare few who refuse to be impacted by life events,  but sadly most people do, and neither of those is “wrong”, it simply is.

While someone may learn to survive under conditions of feeling as though they have to be someone they are not to be accepted, loved, or deemed successful, they do not thrive that way. On the outside, they can appear to be super successful and in some measures they may be, but I’m talking about something much bigger than that. The stuff we’ll be looking at here cannot be measured in material terms. That’s not to say that the two are mutually exclusive, because they’re not. I firmly believe that you can have it all.

My life’s work is about helping others to reconnect to the light which we were all connected to at some time. Reconnecting to this may very well lead to major life changes across the board, but it doesn’t have to. We can connect to our essence, spirituality, and joy while still keeping the same jobs and so on. It doesn’t mean that you have to enter into something on a grand scale along the lines of “Eat, Pray, Love”, unless you really feel called to go to those lengths. Even if you do feel called to embark on something huge like that, or to make major changes in your life, there are ways to bring yourself closer to that vision internally until you achieve it externally. As a matter of fact, manifesting those changes internally is the way to the external ones. The steps of each person’s journey are individual to them and I won’t tell you what you simply must do to make your entire life perfect and magical. If only it worked that way!

What I will do is discuss all sorts of things that you can explore and try which can help you to get reconnected to that divine spark which is still in there. Being able to light back up again and discover or rediscover who it is that you really are and partake of things which give you a sense of childlike wonder and happiness has huge ripple effects. You start to awaken parts of yourself which have lay dormant, your creativity gets a boost, your outlook changes (not to mention your attitude *wink*), and before you know it, all sorts of changes will be manifesting.

There will be a new post every week covering topics which pertain to ways of connecting to that part of yourself, discovering ways to awaken spiritually, figuring out who you really are and what makes you happy, finding more self love, acceptance, and healing. To put it simply, I wish to help you discover ideas and tools which help you discover yourself and shine again…to reilluminate.

Hope to see you again next week, when I’ll be beginning a multi-part weekly series of articles about an energetic exercise I created for myself a few decades ago that’ll help you get things moving. We’ll get into more concept pieces later. For now, I think that something more “doing” driven is a nice way to start out, as it gives you something you can actively work with.

If you’d like more individualized support, each tab across the top has information on various services I offer, or the drop down menu at the top left for those on mobile. Feel free to explore.

Sending lots of love your way!
